Название PremiumThemes подразумевает, что наши разработки идут дальше  обычных шаблонов и позволяют создавать не только простейшие блоги и сайты-визитки, но и более развёрнутые приложения, соотвествующие профилю средства массовой информации, такие как интернет-газета или городской информационный сайт. Это же означает, что процесс настройки будет чуть более сложным, чем простая инсталляция очередного блога на Wordpress. Фактически, вы получаете собственную CMS на основе Wordpress, которая, однако, с выходом новой версии Wordpress без проблем сможет обновить сам движок сайта, не меняя настроек. Обновление происходит через панель управления, практически мгновенно.

В условно-бесплатно распростаняемой версии шаблона отсутствуют блоки, позволяющие владельцу получать доход от сайта. В такой версии обязательно сохранение ссылки на нас как разработчика и одного графического рекламного блока размером 300х250px. Это блок компенсирует наши затраты, кроме этого, он является неотъемлимой частью дизайна.

The issue last year, as it seems to be this time around is primarily links out on themes to other sites. This is yet another case of Mullenweg biting the hand that feeds him. WordPress theme designers were one of the backbones of WordPress’ spectacular rise from obscurity to the powerhouse it is today. Downloads from WordPress.org went over 11 million since last summer (up from 2.8 million the year before), thanks to over 11 new WP releases.

The focus for 2009? Easier upgrades. Their growth, Mullenweg says, is not dissimilar from other popular products (he mentioned Microsoft, OSX, iPhone, Facebook platform as examples), and believes that good platforms need good self-updating systems. Automattic has a three-prong strategy for better updates: better community awareness, working with webhosts, and adding automatic upgrades functionality to WordPress. Mullenweg envisions the upgrade process to work just like Firefox: one-click, with a list of plugin and theme incompatibilities generated. WordPress.org’s plugin directory (and a recently-launched theme directory) will help make this possible. Many new features are also in the pipeline, including the much anticipated BuddyPress, but that a clean update system will remove one of the biggest thorns for WP users.

Also up for 2009 is better security. Their most recent release, 2.6.1, was an optional update (no security patches), which is a nice departure from their previous, critical ‘dot’ releases. WordPress has received a lot of flack for this recently: they were given a 2008 Pwnie for Mass 0wnage for numerous vulnerabilities that led to mass hacking.

Since the release, there have been around 23,000 daily downloads – approximately 345,000 total.
The tutorial video posted along with the release notes has been viewed over 665,000 times.
There are over 201 thousand blogs using 2.6 already, about 9% of all known WordPress.org blogs in 10 days.
There have been over 300 themes submitted to the brand new Theme directory, released around the same time as 2.6.
In the same period (10 days) there were 579,871 downloads of 2,527 plugins from the official plugin directory.
Matt also mentioned that many users wait for the .1 version after a new upgrade, so he expects to see these statistics to grow even more once 2.6.1 comes out. Only a very small amount of users have reported problems, and this upgrade seems to still be going very smoothly compared to those past. With many large corporations such as CNN and the BBC using WordPress, the CMS that was once an underdog seems to be growing and expanding all the time.
